Post subject: | overloaded my minis electrical system can anyone help |
hi my 1978 clubmans battery was flat so i jumped started the car i think ive overloaded the electrical system my indicaters, wiper motor wont work the ignition light is on all the time and the oil light wont come on the car still starts and drives anyone done this if so what componont do i need to change thanks for any help |

How did you hook up the jump leads? - positive to positive - negative to negative I hope otherwise you may have cooked your regulator/diodes in the alternator. If you have a multimeter check the output from the alternator and see what it is doing. |

did you check your fuses as well? They are hard to see sometimes so use a multimeter or just get new ones. |

Check and clean the fuses and fuse box. |

Does the motor now start. In most Minis we only have two fuses. so check them but if you can start the engine its not the fuses. You say your indicators and wipers dont work can you try your head lights, radio and all the others.. Oil light alwys on is a mystry to me |

three fuses, two in the fusebox and one in the wiring loom for all the lights. |

The one in the loom for the lights was only on Leyland mini's (and normally lost and forgotten about up behind the carb), the rest just had the two in the fusebox ![]() |

yes i jumped it in the correct way and it started ,im begining to think you guys are right its the alternator, the 2 fuses (main) were ok but the fuse box looks dodgy ive ordered a new one plus a oil pressure switch it may be its just the globe thats blown .One last question when ive removed my old flasher unit its a lucas one looks like a small aluminium box the new one i bought looks a lot more advanced its a bosch when i fitted this the indicaters still dident work is this new one compatable has anyone else swapped from a lucas to a bosch ...thanks again guys |
