if the shell is rust free, needs a paint job, needs new sterring rack,, motor may need a going over probably around $400-$700 id say...

I just got a 72 clubbie for $500, it is A1 mech (reco engine) it needs paint, alittle bit of rust cut out, wheels and finishing off..

look around the rear wheel arches where they join to the floor, mine are cracked from them flexing. I've also got cracks in the sides of the little 'step' under the back doors

These "whats it worth" questions always intrigue me. as i have said before, anything is only worth what a buyer will pay, and vice versa, what a seller will accept. Almost every other observer will have a different idea. Its a bit like quantum physics, in that everything is described in probabilities, and that all works ok until you actually observe an event. same goes for the price to pay for something. we can all sit here and throw numbers at you based on our previous experience, but until you open your wallet and wave some cash at him, and he accepts then we will never know :D we may in fact be right off the mark.

mickmini,

I believe the same thing myself, my usual approach would be to try and get the seller to name a price, but he's a friend and had no idea at all of what he wanted. I didn't want to undercut him too much (many friendships can go bad when selling cars) but didn't want to overpay either.
I was tempted to offer him a carton and some pizza but thought that may be a bit low....

P.S. I've offered him $1500, thanks for the info.

Matt

Matt

so you've done the first part of the observation experiment, the question now is, will he accept ? let us know, so it adds to the experience of the mini buying public

Anton, i think it is worth absolutely nothing. but only because i do not want to purchase it. like i said before, because i am not the buyer....... but i think $400 is a very good price for the car described if that is what Matt68 can get it for though

Makka,

Yep he used to work there, the car has seen better days now tho... Needs new steering column & probably rack, the engine leaked out about 3 litres of oil after sitting for a few months and the brakes are in need of major attention too! It'll be a nice little van once i've had a chance to get it going again!!

If he sells it to me that is.....

Cheers
Matt
