Post subject: | Gear box issues - any ideas? |
Hi, have a 1275LS engine, having trouble with the gearbox once car warms up. As car warms up, revs seem to increase, then have trouble getting into 3rd and 4th. Gears grind, revs stay high (1.5 - 2K rpm) even with foot on clutch the revs won't drop. So question is, is it a gearbox issue or a carby issue. Running a 45 Webber. Cheers |

the idle speed could really only be timing or carb setting? with the gears not sure.. maybe adjust your clutch throw and see if that helps? |

1 set the idle speed 2 check the clutch adjustments. Another thing could be the pressure plate not dis-engaging evenly. This will cause the clutch plate to have a "residual" drive when changing gears. If the grateing of the gears only occurs when the engine is hot then a couple of things to check. If these are all ok the another thing to check is the primary gear on the crank. If it does not spin freely this can also create a residual drive from the engine when the clutch is dis-engaged. I have run across this problem when the bushes were replaced and the clearance was not enough. As the eng heated up and the crank/gear expanded the gear had friction and tried to drive the gear train when the clutch was dis-engaged. This also can be from a carbon build-up or fine metal particals trapped inside the bush making it a little tight. |
