I know this comes up from time to time but who's using who for insurance atm?

I've got 6 cars with Shannons (including my daily) and am about to add one more, problem is the quality of the call centre staff they have.

I've got my policy document in front of me which clearly states that if my 18yo son is driving one of my cars and has an accident he's got to pay an age excess which is reduced if I nominate him on the policy. Trouble is the dipstick I got on the phone tells me that's not true and I'm missreading the paperwork and therefore won't nominate Josh on my policy, I've read it, Josh has read it, it's clear as the nose on your face - I've even offered to fax it to the guy but that's not good enough for him.

I've had this trouble with the call centre before and to be honest much and all as I'm happy with Shannon's and have been pleased with their attention when we had a claim a few years back I just can't be bothered anymore.

Question is are they hiring fools or is this a blatant grab for a bigger excess in the event of an accident?

So, who's using who and how are you finding them?

end of rant

shannons gave me 10K insurance without even sighting my car.

if the guy on the phone if giving you the irits, one simple statement. "I want to talk to your supervisor."

i was considering going elsewhere just to get a better rate with having all vehicles together, But now shannons are doing green slips it makes it more desireable to stay.

Shannons for me as well, gave me $15.000 over the phone and no ones ever inspected the car in 2 years, renewal just came in and hasn't changed a bit.

They also have salvage rights on the contract, and thats gotta be a great idea.

Cheers.

Shannons NO THANKS for me.

They would only go the 8K on the mini K must have photos as well.
Swapped over to GIO veteran & vintage. Same premium, now insured for 15K and its not confined to an occasional drive-Shannons (GIO everyday drive).

The "S" again GIO heaps more value, but premium did not rise much!
Very happy with GIO
make sure you say Veteran & Vintage (must be over 30 Years old)

Also ask for salvage rights (no extra cost)

I have my house and 3 investment properties with them too

I just feel that the staff have no training and don't care (not all but certainly some)

I have a friend from one of the car clubs we're in who works for Shannons - I think I need his direct line lol

I'm the same as Davo with my mini.
But I have the Commodore, Hilux and House with CGU.( Market price for the cars.)
It just worked out cheaper that way.
Only one small claim on the Hilux with no problems with getting it fixed.

I've got both my Mini's with Shannons, and I've had no problems with them whatsoever. Like several people above, I have agreed value on both cars based purely on my description of them -- they've never asked for supporting evidence (not that it would be contrary to my description in any case).

I've also had nothing but good experiences with their call centre staff -- I have been able to talk to them in technical terms (when describing the cars) and they just 'get it'. On one occasion the person I was speaking to had to confirm a price with his supervisor (because it was higher than what his estimate was telling him) but other than that...

When you call shannons, write down the persons name, if they are a dipstick, put a cross next to their name, if they are nice, put a tick. keep the list for later reference, if you get a person with a 'X' next to their name, just ask to speak to any one of the people with a tick next to their name. Had to do this with my MG, though had to insure it under dads name ('car enthusiasts' can be under 25 you know). took about 4 people before we struck somebody who knew something about MG's and understood why i wanted such a high agreed value (most of them told me i couldn't have 15k as an agreed value for one reason or another, the guy who knew MG's just asked a bit about the general condition of the car, mainly the body and interior, and said that it was a reasonable value) Thats my 2 bob anywho.

im with GIO and they are excellent... they didnt even question why i wanted to insure my van for a certain amount, plus u get choice of repairer, hire car offer, low premuims and everything and i mean everything on my van is covered.

and the staff on the phone was great.

better then NRMA and Shannons if u ask me.

GIO for sure Shannons would not look at increasing the value after a large amount of work. My daughter had an accident in her mini which was insured for $6000, $5300 damage you would think they would write it off ?
No an appeal by the repairer to say how much the car meant to her and they approved the repair, can't argue with that can you !

Perfect thread for the timing. Just chasing this on Friday.
I've been using an insurance broker (friend of a friend of a friend) who i couldn't beat his prices or services.
But he can't find any insurance on the mini for comprehensive. Only 3rd party/fire/theft.

67 mini deluxe good condition with $4500 cover. (purchase price). daily driver. WA.
Shannon's were very helpful over the phone. $350 with $250 excess. All the usual including salvage & choice of repairer.

I tried GIO (after reading some older threads). Website said to call. Gave me a great feature of typing in a phone number and they'd call you back. (rather than waiting on hold or directory systems!)
The saleswoman didn't think that the mini could be covered and I reminded her about the vintage/veteran products. (talk to someone 1st, etc, etc.) All good.
$233 with $200 excess. If I wanted salvage rights $291.

4myego, can you tell me how you got salvage rights included?

Put a query onto the LSV website. They only do occasional use insurance. Once or twice a week.

Cheers,
Mark.

i got the same as 4myego my salvage rights are included. im paying $245 with a $600 excess ( being under 25) and vans insured up to $11000 with everything covered in it aswell, incase of fire or theift.

guy called me about the cover i wanted and i justed asked nicely if i could get the salvage rights aswell.. he cheerfully said no problems mate, i would expect you would want it back being a car that is probably close to you?... i was stunned a nice phone service person that understood how i felt and wanted.. very pleased.
