ok this problem has been happening for the last few months been driving me insane.. thought i fixed the problem the first time.. no 2 weeks later problem again.. fixed the problem again about a week later... now a few days ago once again my brakes lights stop working.

i checked the globes and fuses still good. so im thinking wiring or switch.

the vans a 72 clubby with the switch on the line in the engine bay rather then the electric switch on the pedal. i was checking the wires over and the lights started to work... soon as i shut the bonnet they didnt work again... i disconnected the wires and checked again was getting power and if i bridged the wires the lights came on.

im wondering anyone had a wiring diagram for the vans??

The pressure switch has passed its use-by date. Bin it and fit a new one. (waiting for DrMini to come on and say that all new ones are crap and to fit one to the brake pedal )

and while your at it fit a new fuse in the wiring loom behind the carby.

the switch on the pedal was there for a brake fail warning light, not the actual brake light switch.... right?

IE if the pedal switch is on, but the pressure switch is off, then you're gonna crash

Nah, the fail switch is on the master cylinder, the brake light switch is on the pedal.
But he could hardly describe it as a "proper clubby one". They were only fitted to the very last Australian cars in 77/78. Most "Clubbies" didn't have them.

Are the wiring terminals at the switch tight? they get worn and dirty, new ones might fix it

I've never fitted one but a relay would probably make the switch last a lot longer.

long enough for Tiny to get his car to a mechanic to fix it?

I had a switch stop working a year or so ago - it spun me out - I didn't think it was possible for them to stop working....

problem solved.... i replaced the switch but it wasnt the problem. the power wire going to the switch must be broken inside so i just made a new wire going to the switch problem solved.

Keep the old switch Joe, you might need it again when the newie carks it.
What happens is, you have to push harder and harder to get stop lights. Worst in cold weather.
I got- 3 months out of one new hydraulic one,
3 weeks out of another,
and 12 months out of a grotty old s/h one from a wrecking yard.
Then finally I bit the bullet and fitted a late Clubby mechanical switch. These work better anyway, the brake lights come on just BEFORE you get brake pressure in the system (if you adjust it properly). So that dill sitting on your arse might not hit you.....

yeah the bloody lights dont come on till my foots pretty much slamed down on the thing.
