hey guys, i've just had a bigger motor put in my mini and the battery seems to JUST turn the motor over. it's gone from a 998 to a 1330 with LOTS of work done. suggestions on what sort of battery i need would be greatly appreciated. |

you shouldnt need a bigger battery, but if you are getting a new one get one with a large cold crank value, mines somewhere around 500 or so |

maybe thier considerable differnace in compression between the two engines and the starter motor is having troubles turning the motor over so a biggr battery is required |

There is no point in asking if you need a stronger battery if you won't tell us the specs of the battery that you currently have. |

why not? I bet his current battery doesn't eat it's weeties, and is just a general wussbag.... see, I'm sure he hasn't got a 550 CCA calcium battery - I've got about an 8m sloping driveway and I've driven my car up it using the starter motor a few times ![]() |

Is nobody going to ask about the condition of the starter motor? I went through the routine of the starter motor letting the engine down only a few months ago. a properly sorted and rebuilt starter motor spins my 1310 over like a sewing machine. A 1330 shouldn't be any different. Pull it down and check the condition of the brushes, also the condition of the commutator (should be fairly flat and no pitting. Look for discoloration of the conductors relative to one another on the rotor as this will indicate a problem with the windings. Also check your battrery leads for damage as well as your terminals. |

My own theory is not to buy anything until you know what the problem is. |

I'm in a similar situation but i dont have the original battery. What do people recommend for a cheap reliable battery? |

My van has a DIN77 700 cca sealed battery. No problemo, runs the stereo well ![]() My clubby has a 480cca battery, no problem. Get your battery tested, it's probably a bit weak. Has it ever been dead flat? Lead acid battery killer, knocks off 10% each time. |

may be the earth, the engine bay has just been freshly painted. most likely is the weakness of th battery it is VERY small. and YES the battery has been dead flat several times since the motor has has been rebuilt which was only a week ago. |
