Post subject: | HID light installation. |
I installed a HID kit in the van on the weekend. I already had H4 headlights so I thought I'd see what a $200 kit off flee-bay would be like. ![]() The main job was cutting off the connections, threading the wires through the headlight housing and soldering them back together again. Everything else was by the book and fairly straight forward. ![]() Before. Low beam. ![]() High beam. ![]() High beam with driving lights. ![]() Only pic of installation sorry. I forgot to take more. ![]() ![]() After. HID low beam. ![]() HID high beam. ![]() HID high beam with driving lights. ![]() The pics don't show the true brightness of either the HIDs or the halogens but still shows a good comparison. After I installed the kit I changed the globes in the driving lights to arctic whites to give them a blue tinge to help match the HIDs. Against a standard globe they are a more blue in colour but against the HIDs they still look fairly orange. I also did this to the parkers in the headlights themselves. The main problem with the driving lights now is I can only find 55watt blue globes so their not as bright as when they had the 100 watters in, not that they would make much difference anyway, their only there for show now. ![]() Warning. Only install ADR approved HID kits to your vehcial. |

Good work!! Love the improvement Reminds me of when I upgraded to halogens on NAV. No one used to flash me on hi beam with the old candle powered headlights. So I added spotlights and go and improvement for hi beam but low beam was just a joke. I put some halogens in with something ridiculous like 90w/160w globes and they outshine the spotlights now ![]() I was toying with the idea of going to HID but i'll wait to see what the lights are like on NAV again before making that decision now |

E-bay. $200 including postage. ...And as for it all being legal, make sure you know what your getting yourself into. I put the warning there for others thinking of doing the same conversion. |

I heard that when the light gets dirty it distorts the light and affects drivers coming towards you. I have auto level and wash on my cooper s, light spread is great and washers are cool. I've installed HID's before at work and no one has been concerned about not being legal! |
