I'm doing the same job now- just take the tank out, what is in the line will drain back out.
Then, wrap a thick plastic bag over the end of the line with a rubber band to hold it on.

I am going to remove the fuel tank soon so i can weld a new rear valance on and a patch in the boot floor. Should I take the fuel line off too up to the carby or just run the car with the tank out to ensure there is no fuel around, Anyone done this job before ? Don't want to explode !. Will be using MIG |

I welded a new boot floor AND rear valance into JAM. Obviously removed the tank, but I simply left the fuel line in the car....in fact, I left the hose open at the end that came off the tank. I lived to tell the tales....  but you can't be too complacent.

the worst that would happen is the lil rubber bit at the end would catch on fire.. and this would only happen if you fire up the mig straight after taking the tank out.. (or try to weld ontop of it in whch rubber is quite capable of burning all by itself) leave it for half n hour till that "petrol" smell goes.. and your just staring at bit of rubber hose that might aswell be a water line it requires massive amounts of explosives to get a car to behave like they do in the movies |

Just remember to take the battery out before you take any fuel tank out right or left hand side I reckon. It is possible to forget to do this and it is bad news if you get a spark.

Also with welding on cars, if your welder runs on power and needs to be earthed byt the machine, remove the battery, can fry your electrics. cheers |
