The #1 spark plug thread feels a bit "soft" as if it's going to strip....is there an easy part time fix to keep it ok, till I get the new head finished?

dont do it up till it strips!! if it feels like its going to strip take a deep breath and just prevent the urge to strip the thread.

I've fitted spark plug thread inserts before, comes in a kit with a tap and inserts, you tap out the thhread and screw in the insert with some lock tite on it. The one I did for a 'tempory' fix lasted several years and quite a few plug changes :D You can get the kits from most auto places and it was quite cheap when I bought mine.

I have the `Recoil' kit here, I can do it for you cheap if you bring me the head.

Before you go that far pull the plug out and shine a torch in the hole, see if threads are really missing. It's damned hard to strip the plug threads in an A series cast iron head... but too easy in modern alloy ones.
