I have been told that my mini (1275) would take a castrol green pre-mix...but is there any variances in the grade of green coolant? my mate just bought some tectalogy with a "heavy duty" rating of 100 and my dad has the same stuff but in a rating of 60.... anyone know if it is important to keep it the same? cheers |

nup, doesn't make any difference - I don't bother with it, though some like it for the rust inhibitor factor |

It doesn't matter. Just don't mix different brands/types together. If it already has Castol green, then only use Castrol green unless you flush the whole lot out first. |

I won't run an engine without rust inhibitor. My 1100 has had it since rebuild about 8 years ago, and it still looks as clean as the day it went in. The coolant remains crystal clear. In contrast, my van had water in it which was more like brown clay than water... Clean it, run coolant and it will stay clean. |

You do get what you pay for however, there is a reason for the price difference. About 1995, a pile of "Coolant" suppliers got picked up for their dodgy premix products. It turned out their products had a drop or two of chemical component, a measure of green industrial dye, and the rest was simply tap water. In the end they were still working inside the law as the product was still by majority plain water, then as such could still be categorised as being a "Coolant"..... So read your labels carefully and look for a by weight or by volume measurement to work off if you're going to lay out cash for glycols. |

I use the tectalloy concentrate coolant - I guess there is no screaming difference in what brand of coolant you use, as long as you use distilled water NOT tap water when topping it up and you flush and change the coolant every few years or so. |

The Coolent I use is also Clear, but I do flush it once a year, Just lucky I guess |
