Hey there Just a quick one... My ignition wasnt working.... when the key was turned, absolutley nothing happened... so after checking out the fuses and connections and giving them a clean I got the ignition working, but still wont turn over the starter motor... Gave the solenoid a tap and checked the connections and all look ok... when the key is turned to start... the ignition light goes out... is this due to a dodgy connection and it going out under load?? Or something else you think? Hmmm Im not sure... hard to see in the dark outside now. Cheers |

Almost certainly one of two things. 1. A very dead battery 2. The most likely - bad and corroded connections onto the battery. Take the battery connections off the terminal posts on the battery. Give them a good clean with sand or emery paper. Do the same with terminal posts. Give them a good smear with vaseline and put the terminals back on and tighten them up so there is a good and even contact. Try the ignition then and if you still have a problem come back and we can discuss next steps. Mike |

I had the same problem, for me it was the earth lead from the battery where it bolts into the body. I had painted inside the boot but not left enought bare metal around the bolt hole for a good connection. Wire brush the lead, new split or tooth washer and make sure there is an area of bare metal around the hole for the lead and washer to bite into. Light smear of vaseline on everything and tighten her up. |

Thanks lads it was the battery terminals... Didnt think it was the battery as its not that old, maybe 10 or so months and checked it and the altenator not long ago. But cleaned them off with sand paper and she fired up first turn.. Gotta be happy it when its only something small haha. Lovely! Cheers |

Make sure the posts (and the clamps) are clean, then smear it all with Vaseline (petroleum jelly). Keeps the corrosion at bay. |
