Hi,

i put my new clutch etc on today and got it home from school, as i was lifting it off the ute something caught my brothers eye and it was a spring hanging from the clutch and flywheel housing. (not the wok- the other one) it was caught between the gearbox and housing. i suspect it may be the retaining spring from the primary gear oil seal but im not to sure yet, so im going to pull it off.

anyway my real question... is there anyone in the wollongong-ish area that would lend me a flywheel puller for tommorow?

also is it possible to set the valve clearences etc without the clutch assembly on? i cant see any reason as why it would effect it??

its quite annoying as the engine has to be in the car and running for monday week for marking and i still have to put most of the interior etc in, then ive got to do the windscreen and seals

thankyou for your help,

Leighton

was it a little skinny soft round spring? it'd be very odd if it is that spring, because it's meant to be on the engine side of the seal, so to come out, it'd need to get out of the seal, between the seal and the crank, and then out.... unless the seal was shredded when it was put in

yes it is, but it'll be hard to push the car backwards and forwards without the drivers side engine mount

Hay, it's not about the car, it's not about the venue, it's about the people that come here. Peter Dwyer, Mayor of Hay NSW.

Might just be the split pin they have hanging out of the hole in the clutch housing

well i found a puller and got it all off and it wasnt that primary gear spring a mentioned before but it was similar... a bit thicker though. the only way i can think it got in is that becasue im building the engine at school on the floor (as opposed to engine stand) it may have been flicked up in there somehow and i must have missed it  it broke the gasket so ill need to grab one tommorow hopefully and ill get it back on.. this time without any foreign crap in it.

thanks for your replies,

doogie, i was going to PM you about the puller but my dad new someone here.

EDIT: simon i dont understand why i need to move the car backwards and forwards to time it etc?

cheers

Leighton

the easiest way to turn the engine over to do the tappets is to put it in 4th gear and push the car backwards and forwards...

The 2nd easiest? is put it in 4th, handbrake on, jack up one front wheel and turn it.
Handy if you don't have a level parking space...
