I've ordered a new speedo for my car but still need to sort out a pick up sensor. Are there any hall effect sensors you can buy that attach to the mini gearbox without modification? Alternately, does anyone know the thread size on the cable attachment point on the gearbox? Thanks. ![]() |

I vaguely remember someone on the MiniMania site found something from a Chevy Or Caddy or similar that fitted onto the Mini gearbox. Sorry, I can't find the post now. ![]() |

I've been thinking about the same Aaron, it wouldn't be hard to modify something like this: http://www.clubmansqld.org/Tips/T50_Speedo.pdf the thread on the gearbox is an odd one, it's much finer than UNF. I was thinking I'd need to cut the thread off and bore it out, and fit something else into the boss I haven't gotten around to visiting my wreckers and finding something to modify - you probably don't want to put something on the back wheel for the same reason I don't... just too yucky |

Speedycables in the UK (who also manuafcture the Smiths gauges) can also supply the sensors for electronic speedos. They have one - the hunter transducer that connects to the normal mini speedo cable |

how do you like these apples? still takes a standard cable, but the pickup is at the gearbox took a normal mini speedo drive, modified it slightly to incorporate a hall effect sensor ($5 from Jaycar) and a nylon ring that holds a magnet - too easy ![]() ![]() this is my proof of concept, the boss and cable slot are rooted, so I'll make another one for my car |
