Far enought forward to clear the quartervents when opened...
Not like mine is at present (the painter was supposed to fill all the old mirror holes. He didn't... so I had to mount the mirror to cover them.

double sided tape is your friend.

not super strong, dont want to damage the paint, but perfect for trial fitment.

OK, here's one way to do it :)

My passenger mirror base is 80mm back from the leading edge of the door, and 40mm down from the chrome (not on the flat, it's on the curve):

.. and this is what I can see from my normal driving position:

The driver's mirror base is 150mm from the leading edge of the door and 50mm below the chrome (but I think only because I already had holes in this position):

This is what I can see from my normal driving position:

I suspect if the driver's mirror was mounted further forward I'd have a more complete view of it through the quarter vent, but I reckon I'd have Doc's problem then ;)

I love these mirrors, in convex form they give perfect all around vision. Wouldn't drive without them.

I believe the correct position is further up, ie on that narrow vertical section just under the glass channel for the sliding glass. There was a special base for the UK MK1/2 cars (same doors as yours) which positioned the mirrors at the right angle when mounted on that vertical section. See photos (at links) below for a left hand Tex mirror with that base.

I considered mounting my Tex mirrors on that flat section but realised that it means drilling into the channel that collects the water from below the sliding windows. I'm not sure that is a good idea!! I agree that they would look better and probably be better for rear viewing though. Stil comtemplating this .....??? Look forward to hearing from others on what they've done as well.

I considered mounting them there, but took the easy way out and used the holes I already had ;)
