I've got an 1 3/4 on my car, it's an external bowl.

always had idle issues with it, i think it's a combination of the throttle cable and return spring being less than perfect.

i've been told the shaft on the butterfly is good, and it feels good to me.

question is do i stuff around trying to sort this carb (i did spend a fair bit of money with it on the dyno getting the needle machined and sorted) or do i put on the 1 3/4 HIF44 i've got?

cheers.

The HS6 you have will work just fine, if you sort out what you say is wrong. The HIF if in good condition will also do the job just fine. There will be no difference noticeable between the two in my books. The needle will transfer from one to the other without any issues. If it is a HS4 it won't, there different needles.

The other thing to consider is that the HIF44 has the O-ring-on-the-choke problem which is this carb's achilles heel. I'd use the HS6 if you've got it ;)

I agree with the above, I'd fix the HS6.
HIFs also need more room to fit in, this can be a problem with long (ie good) manifolds.
Eh, Aaron...

I have a HIF44 on the 1152 and works well but the 998 will get a refreshed 1 1/2 HS4 Su. eather way to get the best out of them is to put a kit throu them and tuned correctly
