OK it won't fire.
Turns over (a bit slow). new battery time, new starter time? put the jumper leads on the Berlina and with out plugs it spins fine.
Have oil pressure.
Plugs in & have spark. (using the $45 dollar electronic conversion)
Won't go :(
I live in Carole Park, Brisbane.
Will pay to get it going, anyone?
PS. don't think about stealing it. I have two BIG german sheperds that would tear you a new one ;)

ty try two batterys, one for the starter and one for ignition, had this problem before, fired up second time, once engine runs for a bit,it will start on only one battery, trust me it works, starter draws all the current and volts,so no ignition.cheers andy

Hows the timing? Is the distributor in the right way and not 180° out. Check rotor pointing at No1 cylinder with No 1 at TDC (and the marks on the flywheel on the pointer)

Have you got the earth strap connected from the clutch "wok" to the mount on the inner guard?

Someone has already suggested timing/dissy position.

High tension leads in the correct order on the cap?

Rockers not to tight on the valves holding them open a
little?

is there fuel in the floats?
if its turning over a bit slow try what minimy said and grab another battery just for the starter.
also check there isnt an air leak between the inlet manifold and the head.
otherwise check the timing as mentioned

timing might be slightly out but should fire,
valve clearences all good
earth strap on
leads in correct order
shouldn't be any manifold leak, good gasket and I use avaiation gasket cement on there too
battery is of concern so off to Supercrap at Goodna
Will check fuel in bowl when I get back.
Dave P is coming around to help me this afternoon, Champion that man.
Will update you all then.

UPDATE
Before Dave P came around I went and bought a new battery 520CCA, new battery connections and put them all on. Then......

This car is cursed!!!

Dave P pulled down the carb then put it back together, all good. then he turned to the timing. Ooops 180 degrees out (how embarrassment) He fixed that up toot sweet by changing the spindle back to the way it was supposed to be. Then Dave got it to fire a few times and then the starter made some strange noises. Change of starter and the same sound. I said to Dave 'The last time I heard that sound was when a flywheel had come off a friends mini. I spoke too soon. Yup the very same. Feeling sooo very down I was ready to put a match to it. I said to Dave that I was ready to put it away for another extended period of time but ever the optomistic he spured me on. Dave had to leave and with all of the help that he had given me I couldn't let Slimey (new name) go. I ripped off the wok to find that the key had broken in the end of the fly wheel. what would cause this? I used a massive levered torque wrench to do the bastard up. Any thoughts?

All I can think of is that someone has jammed the key on the wrong way in the past and through the torque of the starter and resistance of the engine under compression it's snapped. I almost put nav's key in the wrong way yesterday.
115 ft/lbs is a bugger to do when the engine is sitting on the floor.

Don't give up now, big smiles are not far away. I just got nav fired up today after nearly 12 months off the road. I can't wait to get him registered again :D

I feel I must put you all right on this one.
The the Drive from the Crank shaft to the Flywheel is NOT THROUGH THE KEY IN THE WASHER! That key in the washer is to ensure propper alignment on the crankshaft and flywheel only!
The taper on the crank and in the flywheel is what takes the load.
If you are relying on the key in the washer to do the driving you are going to have problems.
When fitting a flywheel to the crank taper always insure the tapers are in good condition , clean and free of burs.
Lap the flywheel onto the crackshaft with fine lapping paste and check with bearing blue and clean well.
And thats how you do it!
Dave

Perhaps you could offer some "time" with your significant other.
