I need to bleed my clutch hydraulics after replacing the rubber on my slave cylinder. Problem is: I've not done this before, and just spent an hour following my manual's instructions and still have a very spongy pedal that's not doing much.

I ended up getting my rubber tube filled with fluid, couldn't see any air bubbles, but to no avail. This is what I did:

Opened bleed valve, pedal depressed slowly, closed valve when fluid stopped moving, raised pedal. Repeat.

Does it help if the container is higher/lower than the valve? Short tube/long tube? I'm out of ideas

Have your assistant pump the pedal 5 times and hold it to the floor, open them close the nipple. Pump the pedal, let it rest a few seconds and see if its better.

It should come good after a few shots.

If your just bleeding the clutch, put a plastic tube onto the bleed nipple on the slave and run it back into the master cylinder resivior into the fluid.... Crack the nipple open and pump it through a few times. Should get rid of any air in the system and you shouldnt get too much fluid every where

the trick with clutch bleeding is to release the bleed nipple & shut it off fast,,, just a quick squirt,,, don`t let it open for long at all

Just depress the peddle, quick release squirt & shut it off

do that a few times & all will be well

(unless you have "Other" problems)

if you got long enough arms you wont need an assistant, you can reach through to the engine bay while you have your foot on the pedal.

All fixed. Dragged the Minister for Finance out to the shed to pump the pedal for me. It took a while for me to nut it out as 5 pumps wasn't doing much to start with. Plenty more and I saw the arm start moving and could then start getting the air bubbles out.
