Good used condition? What would a NOS one have gone for? If I was that winning bidder's dad, I'd say "Well, it's your money..." and shake my head.

I'm glad I don't have the concours / original bug but I do like affordable period accessories like old spot or fog lights and so on.

Sorry.. but that deserves a slap to the head imo. The fact that people bid it up to $400 means that finding an honest price becomes harder and harder..
Whats an honest price you say? well ffs something that would have cost less than a couple o dollars worth of plastic/leather/resin to produce going at 100X its price just because there are less of them... Hell I could buy a decent antique chair @ 100 years or greater vintage for that sort of price. If it were hand crafted and took a skilled craftsman some actual hours to make then sure.. but if I decided to melt every plastic bag in the world except 10.. does NOT mean those 10 plastic bags are worth more than didly squat.. they are just plastic bags.. and thats just a bloody gear knob. I know I know.. I am wrong as proven by the cashed up spanner who paid 400$ for it.. but in my head.. im old cranky.. and right! :twisted:

Always cracks me up when you see people advertising 1275GT boot lids and the like. Do they think the cachet of a 1275GT is encompassed in a part that's common to almost all minis?

If I were bidding on that knob, I would have have opted out at perhaps $50 and decided to make one myself. Out of papier mache and crayons. Then every day I would marvel at how clever I am.

Exactly, Kyoda.

These were probably only made in their hundreds, as not all GTs got this version.

And some of the very early ones, according to articles of the time, had the plain black knob of the roundnose.

No different to cooper s 130mph speedos, police spec binnacles, Les Leston steering wheels and Paddy Hopkirk seats - none as rare as the GT knob, but worth a lot - and all items that I've had and sold to put the money into other mini projects.

Never had a GT knob though :(

Assuming the buyer is trying to complete an authentic concours restoration of a Clubman GT and is missing the gear knob what alternative do they have? It's all about supply and demand. In my case I'm paying a premium for rare items that were removed from Police vehicles (and often destroyed) before the cars were sold to the public. I'm gradually accumulating things like the original magnetic based Hella blue flashing light and Police calibrated speedo but I usually pay a comparatively high price for them as they are so rare. I don't want to be looking at my beautifully restored but incomplete car in ten years time with regrets that I didn't grab very rare bits and pieces because they seemed expensive at the time. I'm the one who sets the dollar limit for myself and I often miss out, such as the old 60's/70's siren that went for more than $1,000 a few months ago.
