Hi all

Started taking lou apart for her respray/rebuild and started taking the doors apart. managed to get the window mechs out all good and the inner door opener stuff. We tried to get the mech that connects to the outer lock out and cant see how the hell you do it. It looks like it goes around the window channel which is part of the door. Any one have any ideas?

Oh yer forgot to add - Its a 65 deluxe

Do you meant the U shaped metal piece which goes around the back of the window channel to connect to the inner ?

If you do, then once you have removed the outer handle (lever the U shaped piece off the square peg to get to the last of the three retaining screws for the outer handle) then simply leaving it in the door is the easiest method while its being painted.

It looked like it would be possible, and it probably will come out if you manipulate it enough and hold your tongue in the right place...but for all the trouble getting it out, it just raises the possibility you will scratch your fresh new paint when you try to put it back in later.

It goes uot by dropping to the bottom of the window frame.
There's a big phillips screw in the way with the head in the door jamb.
Easy to get off.
