Wow thats amazing!!!!! You should have bought my SS!!!! No no, just kidding just kidding, your LS is beautiful. Nice to see that your not affraid to get our hands dirty. Gamfo is right, cleanliness, cleanliness fricking cleanliness. Otherwise you might end up with another cam shaft that looks like that!! Have you got a Picture of the follower that went with it?

As far as who to send your head to I'd love to help but I'm from Sydney... Sorry.. I can ask some of my Victorian friends if there are any good machinists that they know of. If you just need it decked, seated and new guides you don't need to go to a mini specialist, you'll only pay too much. ANY machinist can do those jobs (just try and get someone to recomend one, cos there are machinists and machinists). As for your cam shaft, there is nothing special about the standard item and most mini parts places should have them in stock.

That cam has had a fight with a lifter some time, maybe due to a bent valve..
The lobes are too worn down to regrind, go find another.
I bet the lifters are all knackered too...

I have just had a few heads refurbished and it ranges in cost from $400-$600 for a basic recon. If you want port work as well then the price goes up accordingly.

Basic recon gets you new valves, guides, seals, acid cleaned, valve seats recut, springs shimmed to suit cam (maybe new ones?) assembled and painted.

Take heart, it doesn't have to be expensive.

If you go that little bit further, you can take the head apart and reassemble yourself, also supplying the parts from where you can get them youself can save a few bucks. if the valves will clean up with a new seat cut then that's another 16 dollars per valve saved.

I provided a head (with new guides already fitted) to the local head rebuilder about two weeks ago. To have the head hot tanked, hardened seats installed, 8 seats cut and 4 valves cleaned up cost me 200 even steven.
I reassembled the head again once I got this all back. All you need for this is a valve spring compressor.

That's more like it!

Just be careful when compressing the valve springs... They pack enough punch to put you gear out of action if your standing in the wrong place... If you know what I mean   .. Just if you've never done one before..

Just looking out for your safety :D

Thanx all, the head has now been relieved of its valves and i still have two unbruised nuts  . I will take it to my engine bloke on monday with the valves, they should clean up good i think and let him go to work on it. Now, a few of the valve springs have crushed down 5 to 10 mm so i was thinking of running double valve springs...Good idea or just stick with new standard ones??

I don't think there is any need for doubles - you're not going to race or rev it

If you are regrinding a cam, ask what springs are recommended.
Most sporty grind cams have higher lift and more rapid valve acceleration.
The spring's strength and max lift specs will depend on the cam you are fitting.

going by the pic of the valve they will not clean up and as per the pics of everything else I'm expecting the seats to be pitted also (pics). With this could you wiggle the valve in the guides
