Hopefully someone out there can help me!

I have just completed a clean up of my engine compartment on a Mark 2 S which included removing the master cylinders from the car. Now I have everything back together I don't seem to be able to get enough clutch throw despite the master and slave cylinders recently being reco'd. Is it possible that I have mixed up the two master cylinders? Is there a way of telling from the outside which is the brake and which is the clutch. Are the bores different sizes and which would give the largest throw?
The master cylinders are like the ones in the photo attached (not the car in question)

Thanks for your help.

You probably have mixed them up.
Clutch bore is 0.75 inch, brake bore is 0.70 inch.
To check take off the hydraulic line and gently poke in a wire, if it goes clear into the master, its the clutch. The brake master has a plastic return valve at the top that will stop the wire.

What Tombo said.
The bore size is sometimes marked on the outside of the body, 1/2 way up.
