Post subject:  HELP HELP minor or Major

Just got home from a quick zip down to Geelong and back and when I pulled up in the garage, I heard the sound of runnng water, so down on hands and knees and there was a small trickle coming out of the overflow pipe onto the floor.....

I watched it for a few seconds and it stopped, then I heard a ticking sound, so I opened the bonnet and listened....the ticking sound could be felt in the top of the radiator and then I saw the top radiator hose pulsating, yes it looked like a vein or artery pumping blood, after a minute or so it slowed and stopped, I took the radiator cap off and used about 200 Mils of coolant to top it up.

Is she just blowing out her tubes after hibernation or could it be something more sinister.....

Any suggestions my knowledgable friends

Its just clearing its nose Davo. Give it a tissue

it was a little warm from the trip, as long as the thermo fan was kicking in and it doesn't use any water from here on you'll be fine.

Cleaning its nose, it scared the sh1t out of me, but what is the throbing of the top hose got to do with anything, its like the vinegar stroke of the one eyed trouser moonster, please explain......

Boiling water I would suggest as the water boils and the cap vents there will be a lttle pulsating. Watch it for a while and see what it does. The thermostat might be stuck, but if you just came off the highway after a slog to and from Geelong, then it may not be unusual for it to cough up a little water.

it was pulsating and there was no water coming out of the overflow pipe.
the ticking sound is what got to me, it sounded like it was coming from down the back of the engine somewhere, near the bottom of the radiator or somewhere near there.....

Bring it round if you want me to take a look (after tomorrow  I got my arse hanging out), but the ticking would have been like AEG said the steel shrinking, I would guess the exhaust pipe however. More power to the fact you just came off the highway.

If it continues to run too hot then check it out, it might be a bigger problem (running lean, or problematic cooling system), but to only lose 200 mls of water isn't a big thing, if it had really boiled it would have dumped water like a dysfunctional sphincter.
