I have bought a clutch kit as there is bad judder and I think I need to replace the clutch plate. I do not want to take the motor out so has anyone got any advice on doing this job.
It is a verto clutch.

i did mine with the engine in

all i did was undo the bottom engine mounts and jack the engine up

its makes it a bit easier to get to the bolts but its still not very easy

from experiance i would say pay someone else to do it (if you have the money)

cos for me it was a head ******

Gafmo, If you (smartly) slotted the 2 lower-most bolt holes on the "wok" part of the cover, I give it a 3/10  factor...

If the bolts are just in holes..... its an 8/10

Moral of the story, while its out, slot the lower bolt holes so you can just "slip" the cover on and off without an extra 3 joints in your wrist.....

Sending you Joy

I've done clutches in the car lots of times. No problem. MiniMatic converters, too.
But... if it's a Verto, I would take the bastard out to do it. They are a PITA from what I've heard. Sometimes the big red BOC Gases `spanner' is needed.

Or, you can make a custom 45* bent ring/OE spanner, like mine... does the same job!

kev, can you post a pic of this spanner of yours.. ive heard a few people do it.. but i'm not sure what you mean..

ive done the thrust bearing in mine before and that was a massive PITA. could move the spanner about 5 degrees at a time.. thats all the room i had

also.. when you jack the engine up be careful.. i jacked mine too high looking for that extralil bit of room, the extractors didnt want to go any higher and bottommed out on the car (topped out maybe) and cracked the seal of the exhaust manifold so my engine bay was all smokey when i started her up.. so off come the extractors.. new gasket .. blah blah..
