In a Mini? No... I had a new Fiat 124S coupe. Good revver. Nice car on the highway. Too bloody heavy for hillclimbs.
BTW there was no posted open road speed limit back then. It was the days of the old prima facie speed limit- otherwise known as "name your own price". If you got pinged, you took it to court and had to prove you were `speeding safely'. 
All it took was $$$....

They would have been turning over 7,000 in 4th gear if they did. And, it is a bloody long downhill run. I think the fastest non-stock Mini at Bathurst (not the 500 race) back in the `60s only ever got 130MPH- can't remember if it was Don Holland, Laurie Stewart, or Brian Foley. |
