Post subject: | Green Slips |
My 1971 Mini K is due for rego at the end of October in NSW and I went looking for some Green slip quotes. I was not impressed to find out that the cheapest I could find was more expensive by $200 per year than our 2005 Commodore. Whats that about? I heard that Shannons offered Green slips but haven't been able to confirm that yet. Does anyone have any suggestions for green slip providers for older (and better maintained than most cars on the road) vehicles. |

www.maa.nsw.gov.au Put in your details & it will give you the prices of all greenslip providers. BTW the newer the car the cheaper the greenslip. Doogie |

Shannons now do CTP greenslips however they are not available via the internet. At my last renewal I also found GIO to be the cheapest. |

Quite often the greenslips are going to cheaper for you from the company you hold your comprehensive insurance with (provided they are ctp providers too). Always check and see what kind of bundle you can do. |

Thanks everyone. I have also found GIO to be cheapest (plus I have other car insured with GIO so that helps). What I don't undersatnd is why would an older car that is obviously looked after, is driven sensibly (for fear of damaging all the work we do) and is generally not as likely to cause damage to others compared to a "newer" vehicle more expensive. I'd get it if it was a unroadworthy death trap just waiting for an accident to happen but.... Ok vent over - just got to accept that we are getting ripped off by stupid government legislation and/or insurance companies. Tim |

Ok vent over - just got to accept that we are getting ripped off by stupid government legislation and/or insurance companies. Tim Because your "obviously looked after" vehicle doesn't have passenger airbags, stability control, abs....all those good things that make modern cars statistically less likely to be involved in accidents where third parties are injured. Edit: And given the fact that you are protected against legal liability for $20 million worth of personal injuries for $400 a year, I'd hardly say you're being ripped off. If you hit someone and break their leg, you'd be up for far far far more than that. |

I am with NRMA for both cars and they work out cheaper for me than the other companies. But it could pay to look into the terms and conditions. NRMA offers at fault driver cover, does your company offer that? (most don't) This covers your own costs if you have an at fault accident. I know that nobody on Ausmini has ever been at fault in an accident but it could happen one day. ![]() |

But you're right....a lot of people only chase the cheapest price when it comes to any form of insurance, not taking into account things like that. That's why companies like Budget Direct and Real Insurance exist. THey're cheap because their cover is cheap. EDIT: clarification |

THey're cheap because their cover is cheap. Neither Budget Direct (work for them)or Real (I checked) offer CTP insurance which is what is being discussed here, not Third party property, third party fire and theft or comprehensive. I suggest you take care with what you write here and base your statements on hard facts when discussing companies, as you never know when one of their representatives are watching. |
