OK... some of you from the dyno day saw Maysie in action. Drives in OK, looks fine, but then turn the key, the fuel pumps through (no issue with fuel line), the starter motor kicks to life (battery OK), but the engine doesnt turn over.

I have had this problem on and off since getting the engine removed (gear box replacement) but always attributed it to the engine being hot. Few minutes with the bonnet open seemed to do the trick....

This time around though, she has been in the garage since being out last night (fired up first go without touble, 30km round trip into the city and back). Had no issue whatsoever last night, but now I cant get any response out of her.

Any thoughts/ideas? I am getting to the end of my tether with this car. Its been off the road more than on the road ever since i got it........

I would be haveing a look at the inhibitor (spelling) switch.
That is the switch that will not let you start in gear.
Cheers Pete

This is important..

So the starter motor crashes in with a loud bang bang, but the motor doesn't turn over?

...or the starter motor whirrs loudly (ie. the starter motor is spinning) but the motor still doesn't turn over)?

The motor churns over like normal but doesnt fire. Its like when you have a flat battery and cant get it to start... everything turns over OK, but there isnt enough energy to fire into life. Its the same sort of thing... but this time, the battery is strong.... everything cranks over, but there is no firing to life.

I had the same issue before with my Moke and the first time it was one of the leads had jolted loose. The second time there was a fine piece of metal in the carbie that was stopping the piston from working properly.

I have checked the leads and they all seem fine. Distributor cap hasnt gotten wet. Car has over half a tank of fuel. Pump is pumping fuel once reds are on. I checked the inhibitor and that doesnt seem to be the issue (in any gear other than park or neutral, the inhibitor prevents ignition, although at the moment i have ignition, just no engine coming to life). Not being a carbie car, i dont know what to look for in the EFI system.

If it's got the fuel pump inertia switch fitted I'd check that.

Probably a broken wire on the ignition relay.

Would a broken wire on the ignition relay give me reds/starter motor kicking around without the actual engine coming to life though?? I would have thought a break in that relay would have prevented any turning over...

RE the threatening her... it worked the last time, but this time she is staying stubborn. Maybe the new flares i just got delivered will brighten her up and convince her she needs to start.

It sure will.
