Hi guys this is my first thread, I'm not sure if I'm putting this in the right place.

I have noticed that there is a lot of questions that come up regarding paint and panel stuff. I don't know if anyone wants it/them but I was considering writing up a how to procedure for painting (both bare metal and repair) in acrylic. Anyone who has read my posts will know that I don't just say do this do that, I explain why's so that you can better understand it.

I don't want to look like a tosser so if there is no interest I won't bother.

The other thing I wanted to ask is, is there any common panel beating questions?

Look like I said I'm not out to carry on like a toss, so if there is no interest thats totally fine, I'm happy to continue adding my 2 cents on everyone elses thread. Its just that it comes up a bit and I seem to be the only one here with any spray painting/panel beating qualifications that bothers making any posts (with the exception of a couple, and guys thanks). Like I said not out to look like a wank, just want to know if I can better assist anyone.

I'm interested in any feed back (constructive, abusive or smart a$$ I give it as well as i take it )

I think some decent acrylic painting tips would help us immensely.
I first painted a Mini in acrylic back in 1966, with Dulon, it came out flat and looked like crap so I gave up, and got a pro to spray it Castrol Green enamel.. it then looked a million bucks.

I know there are tricks to getting good gloss off the gun with acrylic, what are they...

C'mon I don't think anyone cares about my genitiles. I mean Hey if anyone reeally wants to know I've got nothing to hide...

EDIT: thanks doc, Already got that covered in the draft procedure. You can get gloss off the gun with acrylics, its not super mirror quality but its using a method called "Flow Coating" its more for getting those hard to reach places you don't want to compound (polish flat and shiny) like door sills and drip rails.

I think it would be an absolute bonus to have that info in a handy howto, and if you need a mini to use in the howto pics, I am more than happy to let you use mine

What scares me is the industry knowlege you need for different products...this is a good prep for X brand paint, but not for Y....thin to 10% for H brand, but 15% for Y....

This kind of information would be awesome to have explained, cos me+paint=runs.

I was thinking about doing a panel beating sticky so that questions could be posted there, just cos I can't think of/replicate of every kind of repair so rather than trying to guess what you guys need, myself and hopefully the shy panel beaters that have sent me PM's can get back to you with info relevant to your question.

Will you need pics from various people? granted you think they show correct procedure.

eg. john cut & shut his driver floor, tammy resprayed a bonnet.

I assume you dont have time to repair all manner of damages of panels on every part of a mini.

We cold supply you pics for the write up so it cuts down the work for you im sure there is many like me, who take pics at every step of their repairs and painting.

Also would you teach how to paint two colors on the same panel without a visible "edge"?

I couldn't agree more....this type of assistance and advice would be awesome. As a total newbie to car restoration the thought of body work and painting scares me silly but I know I have to do it soon or find a significant amount of money and have an expert do it.

Go for it I am positive it would be appreciated.
