Post subject:  SU, Webber or Dellorto?

I think a lot of my idling and tuning issues are due to the linkages on my 1 3/4 SU and i think i've decided rather than spending anymore time and money on the SU i'll get rid of it and put a weber or dellorto on.

i'm leaning towards dellorto as they seem cheaper to obtain.

Question: Are the Dellorto's easier to tune? i'm guessing that more tuners out there will understand them and be able to work on em? is this a fair call.

also my car has a lumpy cam in it, will the dellorto enable easier tuning for down low and up high versus the su?

cheers.

I run a 45 Dellorto on my 1360 and love it.
I find them easier to tune than Webers, perhaps because I've done more of them.
But there are pros and cons with either, compared to an SU...
Pros:
They look good.
No throttle spindle bushes, they use real bearings and seals.
They stay in tune better.
They (usually) give more top end power.
The sound is great.

Cons:
Much more induction noise.
You cannot stab the throttle at idle like an SU (it's not an on/off switch) particularly with big chokes (for power) in it.
Hard to fit in the car with a decent manifold AND air filter. May need a Weber box put in the firewall.
Less bottom end and midrange torque than a good SU setup.
Poorer fuel economy.
Cannot use vacuum advance to the dizzy.
