This race shell was the one in TME issue 10 page 64 & 65
Image

Im near mid way through the organ donor transplant from the tassie racer to my van, and im getting closer to the point of wanting the racer out the door.
But I have no real idea what its worth and I dont want to pee people off by putting a too high price on it, or shoot myself in the foot by a too low price.

So basically I have a rust free 72 clubman, it has a cams logbook, and comes with a cams approved roll cage. 2x race seats with 2x 6point harnesses. Also comes with Performance Ultralights 13x8inch with Dunlop racing slicks (wheels are anthracite in color and come with all nuts and center caps)
It also has a carbon fiber bonnet that weighs 3/5ths of bugger all and a carbon fiber boot lid you can bolt on (has the original boot on it atm)
It has 4 carbon fiber wheel arches that are a bit rough around the edges but do the job I guess.
It will have 2 subframes and 4 extra wheels to enable it to be a rolling shell.

Please post or PM me on what you think would be a fair price to ask, as I dont want to start a bun fight and just dont know what the demand for this sorta kit is like.
If all else fails I guess I could break it up into wheels/seats/cage/shell etc. But it would seem a waste given its got the Cams logbook.

Notes
As roll cages go it looks like it could take a hit from a hummer, tbo I wish it was viable to stick it in the van.
The shell is rust free to the point of being very annoying *as my van is less than rust free at the moment* All stickers have been removed but you can see where the stickers and numbers were.
Wheels are in great condition but bloody massive! A race thing I guess.
Slicks are ... welp slick you can still see what I guess is the indicator for how much rubber is left on them, they seem to have a fair bit left but really I have nfi what to compare them to. I believe they did 4 club days.

Any help welcome on putting a price on it.
Cheers miki

Whereabouts are you located?
Might be worth a bit extra with the cams log book.
Any pictures you can post?

Items like this can be very difficult / slow to sell, then when a buyer 'finds' that it is for sale will pay big $$$ for it. It tends to fall in to the unique / odd / limited market.

It'd suggest putting it on ebay with a low starting price a($0.99) and a reserve of what it realisticly owes you, anything over that is icing on the cake - then the 'market' will tell you what is is worth.

Don't underestimate those last words.

You might think an item is worth say $10 000.00, but if people will only pay $10.00 (on several offers) then all it is worth sunshine is $10.00 not what you THINK it is worth, it may only be worth the big $$ to you only.

Think long and hard about that.

EDIT: No I am not a fan of Ebay, far from it, but it does has some purpose in life!

Does it have any history (driven by anyone "known") of any signifigance or was it someones toy ? How long has it been log booked and driven in any big name events ? Is it a base model clubman or is it a GT ? I'd say (as someone who hasn't looked at buying shell's for a long time) that a good straight shell with cage (welded in ?) fitted , log books (even if not previously owned/driven by anyone known) and wheels you'd be looking at least $1,500 but probably closer to $2,000 . Be interested to hear what others think but you'd have to factor in the cost of getting a cage fitted to another shell to see the real value of it .

You say it has a CAMs Log Book - what class? Improved production, Group U etc?

The log book has 4 club day entrys only, and not by anyone of note. Its Category 3, Formula/Group RCO
The cage looks to be bolted in.

If it had Group U - then big $$$$$. Unfortunetely, I think you best bet is ebay with a reserve of 70% of what you have spent on it - hopefully someone gets excited as it is a good looking car.

I am confiscating alot of the cars bits to put into my van, so I am not trying to sell the whole car you see in the photo. Just that someone asked for a picture of the shell and thats a picture... of the shell :) So to register it, you would have to put like.. an engine and stuff in it. [

I realise it needs an engine.

I thought it may have been cut up or modified enough to require engineering, or not have any vin number/chassis number etc.

If it's a racer it could for example have no boot floor, been lightened in parts (swiss cheesed), firewall could be totally modified. For one thing, it would be hard to register it with a 6 point cage installed. who knows whats been done to it! oh, you do!

thanks.

Tim.

Righto, didnt realise thats what you meant earlier. Nah from what I gather it had been registered and on the road as all panels are in tact, chassis number is where it should be and apart from the cage, I cant find anything thats been hack and slashed. It still has a boxed section in the front firewall where a webber would sit.
You will have to forgive my ignorance as Im really not famillar with what people do to there shells to turn them into racers. I strongly suspect this car was more a *weekend warrior racer* than an actual circuit car.
