Hi,

I was wondering if anyone has had any trouble with new clutch master cylinders?
I have just gone to bleed the clutch bit and nothing came out. So i took the slave cylinder out and cleaned it and still nothing. So i took the pipe out of the master cylinder and out of the slave cylinder and run some compressed air through it and theres no blockages. So i tried the cylinder without the pipe in it and nothing comes out.

So i just thought id see if anyone had any ideas on what could be causing it.

Probably got an air lock in it.
I'd bleed the MC before you put the pipe on. If it's on the car, get someone to push pedal down and hold, then put your finger over the outlet, let pedal up. Repeat until no air coming out.
Refit pipe and bleed the same way, at the slave cylinder nipple.

Make sure that, without your foot on the pedal (or anything else) that the master cylinder has 'bottomed out' or put another way the push rod is up against the circlip. While your at it, replace the clevis pin.

If the Master Cylinder hasn't bottomed out then there is no way that fluid will get into the part of the cylinder that it needs to. Some models were fitted with a spacer under the Master Cylinder.

To help check it, you may need to take the mounting nuts off and have an assistance (preferably good looking !!) slowly raise the cylinder up as you look at the push rod and pedal. Take the Clevis pin out first.

Thanks for your help. I got it working using the method drmini said to try. I now have realized the slave cylinder is buggered. Its pumping fine all the way down to the there. So i'll get a new one of them and see what happens.

And my assistant is good looking lol shes very helpful

Some of the recent `shiny' slave cylinders sold here seem to wear their rubber seals quickly. Then, they let air in on the back stroke.
I don't buy them- I just hone the old one, go to a brake shop and get a standard 7/8" cup seal. They last for a zillion years.

mmm ok then how much does it cost to get the old ones rebuilt?
