so here's the story...
i got some new tyres to please mum...bloody parents ey
and when i picked the car up from the tyre shop, they told me that they took the drum brakes off the front and that they couldn't get the rear ones off. now having only just fixed a problem with the front brakes where they were pulling to the right, that dissappointed me greatly.
so i drove her for a tick, and low and behold she was pulling to the right again, anyway, got her fixed up (the left brake was barely working and the right one was only slightly better).

but...

now when i apply any pressure to the brake pedal the brakes shudder, so i was just wondering...is this easy to fix, and if so how??

Cheers in advance guys.
Brendon

Why did they touch the brakes?

I would take it back to them.....

Brake shudder with drums usually means the drums are not round.
Did they machine them when off, or fit new ones?

nah it was a couple of weeks ago now so surely that's a bit too late
and i rekon they touched the brakes coz they saw it was an old car and they thought they would "try and help" or that they could get some extra cash out of me if they thought i would fall for buying their stuff or something....but other than that i can't think why they would have..
and they didn't know what they were doing so taking it back isn't going to help i wouldn't think

Fair enough. I really don't like people touching things their not meant to, especially when it comes to brakes.

If you believe that it is to do with the work that they did, then it is not to late to go back and talk to them about it!

As the Doc says, it sounds as if the drums are not round.

as far as i know they simply opened them up and fiddled with them, they shouldn't have done anything like machining or anything, i was only after some new tyres...

...and if i get any of the terms or techniques or anything wrong i apologise...i'm still a noob haha

I reckon someone has mashed your drums with a bloody big hammer trying to remove them

I bet they have tried to pull the drums off without relaxing the brakes and while pulling the drums off the shoes have moved and now out of alignment

That's my bet too... they may even be cracked in the corner if they tried hard.

My bet is the same as mini maxx, that the drums are out of round, from being hit with a hammer. Easy to see if they are, just when turning the drum, if the brakes rub against one part of the drum but not the rest, then its out of round!

If you go to adjust your brakes and as you turn the drum its tight, then free, then tight etc its your drum not round.

Hmm, I have had a shudder issue before, never bashed my drums to get them off either. I have the same driums on NAV now, and they've nev er been machined.
My theory is that the wheels have been tightened up with the drum off centre and is holding it there, what i did was loosen the wheelnuts off and tightened the adjusters up and spun the wheels to centre the drum and tightened the wheel nuts up again and hey presto no more shudder!! :D
Give it a spin
