I forget the model designation, but it's the starter motor from any of the rear-wheel-drive PETROL Gemini's.

Yep as he said.
Auto, manual; doesn't matter.
I pulled one out from an auto RWD model - had Rob Ford & his old man clean it out, check brushes etc, and mill the slots in the end; all good. Turns the stroker over great. 8)

Not that anything was wrong with an original starter motor - but I didn't have one to start with so Gemini it was.

Heritage MG sells new ones (no mods needed) for around $160.
And Convertible Mini on here has reconditioned ones.

Ok cool thanks. Whats the difference between pre-engaged and inertia?

chalk and cheese...
A pre-engaged starter engages the pinion into the ring gear BEFORE it energizes the starter. So your ring gear doesn't get chewed up as usual.
Also, the Gemini one engages from the engine side, where the ring gear teeth are always good.

& usually helps keep the ring gear in it`s place instead of the mini strater motor bendix gear trying to smack the ring gear off the flywheel every time you go to start the thing

So if you have bad ring gear, then the gemini starter motor means you can use the same ring gear as if it is new because it grabs on to the side that hasn't been used ?

In the thread it says that MG heritage have new ones that have been modified. If you get one from the wreckers and recondition it what mods need to be done ? In other words, it won't just bolt in ?

Have heard that you can get a rodeo starter motor as well. Is it Better, worse or makes no difference ? Once again what rodeo model and does it need modding ?

Thanks

1. Yes it uses the non worn side
2. if you get one from the wreckers the holes where it mounts need to be slotted
3. any rear wheel drive Isuzu with the G series engine will work, Gemini, Rodeo, Jackeroo
