So I had a slight miss, and hesitation on acceleration. I figured it was spark related, as I couldnt find anything else that wasn't working correctly.

I took off the dizzy cap after inspecting all the plugs, and found that the metal that the rotor button makes contact with had white corrosion all over it. Gave it a quick scrape and most of it came off, engine miss dissapeared.

What would cause this corrosion ? Is it purely a dodgy seal letting in moisture ? or can dodgy electrics wreak havoc with the dizzy cap ?

Those contacts are aluminium on most Lucas dizzies, it corrodes if moisture present. And it often is.
Get a new cap if eroded bad.
