NOT Turbo related, could have happened to anyone....

I noticed at the dyno day that my lower pulley was a little loose, so when i took it home, gave it a good tighten....

Well it came off last weekend ! (about 1 k from home, so no over heating or charging issues...)

Put another one on there last weekend, it just let go 10 mins ago !

Guess the keyway is ferked on my crank .... bugger..... engine out jobbie !

Oh well, any suggestions while it is out ?
J

PS - couldnt have come at a worse time, Easter, raining, Commodore in the shop getting unbent, bugger.

I'm in the middle of an engine rebuild myself 'cause my harmonic balancer was loose and rattly - so I decided to rebuild the engine as you do. When I looked at the keyway the other night it was cracked and broke in two when I tried to get it out. Hard to say if it broke first, or the movement of the pulley stressed it. Probably the latter.

I like freshly painted engines. Whilst it's out, time to freshen it up I say.

James,
You can get it all off in situ, I've done it lots of times. Need to pull the timing gear too, then chisel that crank key out..
I'd put a 1098 balancer on it if you have any left..

I've got a Mk1 S balancer (excellent condition) was going to use that, but there isnt enough room between the snout of the crank and the metal "mount thingy" on the end of the gearbox.....
Just cant manouvre a balancer in there.....I'll need to order a timing cover seal and gasket in the morning then.... should get it friday....(post on Good Friday ?)

Get it done Saturday, ready to take family out to roll eggs on Sunday !

Just grind the metal mount thingy for clearance. Remember to allow enough clearance to fit a fan belt over the balancer when in the car. The 1100 one is smaller, be easier to fit.

1100 balancer and 1275 balancer (1100S & later) are the same thing.
One piece type.
