Post subject:  Interior Mods - Dashboards, Centre Console, Sound System
I have been constructing a dashboard to stick into my clubby to mainly mount my CD player and 2 of the speakers.
Was also looking at putting in a centre console to hold coffee :] and possibly mount some other things.

Does anyone know of any good plans on the net for a centre console?
And where would i buy a cigarette lighter to wire into my car, so i can use my navman..?

Is anyone able to upload pics of what they have done with their interiors, dashboard and centre console wise.

Sorry, can't help you out with centre conole drawing etc, but (and it is a personal choice) I find it a bit cramped with a console.

12 V 'Cig Lighter' socket (which in the new world of political correctness) they now call a 12 V Accessory Outlet, but everyone still calls the Cig lighter sockets.

Jaycay have a couple, Dick Smiths and most Car Accessory places.

Yea, i found the one for A1 scale Here

And as nice as his one does look, looking at the pictures, his clutch is riding up next to the console which would be super cramped for me.

On second thought i think i'll scrap the console idea, thanks for the feedback though.[/url]

Yeah, I think the generally accepted view is that the centre console really does intrude on the space for the clutch and left foot. Most designs i've seen (like the one in your link) have the option for a cut-out around that area but even then I think I'd be catching my shoe on it all the time. Maybe if I had an automatic....

Those premade ones look pretty darn good, although due to my sizable feet, i think i'll give the centre console a miss.

I only really wanted one for a cup holder and somewhere to mount some cigarette lighters, but i'm just going to put those on my dash.

now i need to solve the cup holder issue..

Centre console doean't have to be as bulky as the bought ones.
You could make your own that is narrow and unobtrusive, but if you want more than one cup holder you'd have to put one in front of the other.

couldn't you do an asymetrical console, starting at the mid line of the tunnel and extending left to keep the clutch foot room?

I'm decently tall, and i have to sit with my lets apart a fair way, i think i may actually knock knees on the console too if i were to put it in, so it wouldnt only be an issue for my large feet.

And no, i'm not some kind of yeti-big foot derivative..

do what i did and make your "console" using crome guage pods screwed down to either the dash or an mdf bord that slots in place. you still get all the room and it will look sweet!

Good luck with the coffee holder plan, problem being that your mini does not have the same soft suspension ride as new cars, hence as soon as you start driving your coffee will spill, regardless of what special lids you might have.

I like my centre console, it does cramp my foot slightly, but you learn to use the clutch with the toe of your shoe (instead of the normal part about 1 inch further back on your foot). If you want the console, you will get used to this and forget about it being cramped.
I made my own from scratch with MDF, but to be honest, its a bit of a pain when you have to work on electricals etc, but if you don't need to do work on your car often its ok. Also you usually can't keep your heater as it gets in the way. (At least on roundies)
