Hey guys haven't been around for awhile but anyone who remembers me and my van will know that it was loud. Just finished having it rebuilt and apparently it's now louder!! 2inch through to cannon, yeah real rice i know but the sound grew on me. It's a 1970 panelvan (windows) any idea how loud it's allowed to be? i did a little digging around on RTA but i'm still not sure. Assuming it is to loud what's my best solution? |

I'd nearly reckon the cops will soon let you know how loud it's supposed to be, i'm only guessing but 95 decibals sort of rings a bell ( don't quote me on that ) but i run standard cooper s system on my s and it's bloody loud enough. Don't you find it a pain if you happen to drive it any consderable distance? Colin. |

In NSW it is 96db at 3000rpm at a distance of 2 metres and an angle of 45deg from tail pipe. Cheers Pete |

Most of your friendly exhaust shop guys should be able to help you out with a good guess and what to do about reducing it to acceptable levels. ![]() |

thank guys. i thought it was a bit higher for pre 1975 or something like 105, but it was running 96ish before rebuild. Yeah it does wear a little thin after a while but i don't generally do long trips in my car. I'm kinda torn between sense and loving the sound. |

When I went through ACT rego in March mine was doing about 109 db, they said that it should be about 94ish. I had a new muffler fitted and it was then doing 95 and rego were happy. I don't know if NSW is the same. The exhaust shop put a flange and hanger arrangement so that I can bolt a different exhaust on later if I want. I might do it one day as I can't hear the exhaust over the Webber. |

![]() Blue slip is not a big deal these days, it's pretty much just a pink slip with the car's body & engine numbers checked as well. At least you will get a full 12 months rego, not 12-3 = 9 months for the same 12 months cost... ![]() |
