Hey, I just mounted my exhaust back on and the muffler is sitting about 3-4inches from the rubber fuel line. It says on the fuel line Hy-Temp but i thought i should just ask, will the heat from the exhaust effect the fuel hose? The electric pump is also mounted fairly close to the exhaust aswell. but the hose is the closest. If it is going to effect it will a reflective heat shield of some sort solve the problem? The exhaust is a permanent fixture but the fuel pump can be moved, is it possible to fit it to the firewall , and make sure you have an inline filter before the fuel pump. |

The instructions said to keep the pump close to the tank that was the only reason it was put there. If it says this will it be ok to put on the firewall? Thanks Blake |

I'd reposition the fuel lines and perhaps turn the pump around to shorten the lines. My pump is mounted about the same position and has plenty of clearance. I've also had pumps mounted on the firewall, how well they work depends on the pump, some do not like drawing fuel all the way from the tank. |

oh ok well im thinking of repositioning the fuel line and fitting a heat shield that you get on exhaust manifolds in the engine bay to try and protect it a little bit. This will also protect the pump a little bit aswell from any bumps etc. The heat shield bit above the exhaust manifold in this photo is the bit im using [IMG=http://img185.imageshack.us/img185/4174/img0459or9.jpg][/IMG] |

I wouldn't be worried about heat down there at all, the muffler doesn't get all that hot. Tidy up your lines and forget about it 
Don't be tempted to put that up on the firewall either, it's designed to be gravity fed from the tank and pressurise upstream, not suck from the tank. It might work, but you'd probably have to prime it every time you ran dry. |

FYI the clown that installed the fuel pump (looks like yours) in my car put it at the front of the block, near the alternator so it pretty much sucks fuel. No probs in 2 years that I've had it... |

heat from the the exhaust I would not worry about but I would put a filter between the tank and the pump so what ever crap could be pumped into you tank want get stuck in you pump. Additionally do you have grommets between the body and the fuel lines |

i would be more worried about the electrical tape on the positive wire to the pump,replace it with heat shrink,and if possible zippy tie the wires away from the muffler.my 3 cents worth.... |

There is a filter in there between the tank and pump. Also yes they are grommits as its all i had at the time and i havent got around to buying a bracket for it yet. I used them to try and minimize the vibration noise. As for the electrical tape i probably should replace it. And i need to tidy it all up abit. I wasnt so worried about it when i first put it in as i was running a centre exit exhaust so it was no where near the exhaust. Thanks Blake |

I have a SU pump I was told just a filter after the pump. The pump, I was told has its own screen. Should I use both? |

Yes it might have a screen but there's no point removing a fuel pump to clean it when you can change a filter, an inline filter before and an elbow or inline filter after won't affect fuel pressure. |

I wouldn't do this for 2 reasons: 1. That type of pump is designed to push fuel, not suck uphill. 2. It would be prone to vapour lock up there when hot, like a Morris Minor... I'd leave where it is, just tie the lines back out of the way. |
