Post subject:  air filters for a weber 45dcoe

Hey guys,
I currently have one of these and it is a bit old and I think it may have shrunk (is that possible) as the chrome piece on top rattles now when the engine runs

I am thinking about getting a new one and wanted peoples thoughts on what is good? Will I lose/gain power by swapping these?

Was thinking one of these? NOt sure if it is to thick etc.. anyone know the thickness?

That will fit on fine provided you get the offset version RF445S (for a 45 or 48 DCOE - you didn't state which one your currently running edit - except in the title I just re-read) and depending on what manifold. The 40mm is slightly different as it has tabs to lock the chokes in with.

The above will fit with the Redline 3005, Warneford equivalent; or anything shorter.
Some people recommend the Unifilter re-oilable element rather than using the std lynx one.

Edit - I can measure the thickness tonight unless anyone else beats me to it.

Yes, as above, I run a 45 weber with redline 3005 inlet manifiold and the ramflo 400 series as shown with the change over unifilter as suggested by Dr Mini in Aust. It is great and fits without any mods to the firewall. I was unable to get the offset filter (the holes are offest lower down so the there is a greater clearance between the firewall and filter). When i called them the bloke said they hadnt made any offset ones for a long time but said he could sell me a base plate without the holes at all and then Dr Mini was going to offset machine them for me. As it turned out the standard central holes worked fine and i can still get the filter cover on and off without any problem.

Is your offest one for a 45 awdmoke?

Yep, offset and for a 45. That's why it doesn't fit my 40

I run ram tubes and socks now, but I have a carbon fibre box in the bulkhead that gives just enough room.

The Unifilter LNX400 foam pad fits these Ramflo 400 filters. It has a lot less restriction, and doesn't crumble and fall to bits like the original.
