Post subject:  Tire Pressure on Bridgestone SF-226 tires

Hi,

I noticed my mini felt a bit strange so I went to the servo to pump up the tires and just make sure they were the right pressure.

Unfortunately the tires I have don't have the ideal PSI written on the side, and was wondering if anyone knew what the ideal psi was for a set of Bridgestone SF-226 (165/70R10). I've looked online but had no luck.

When I checked the pressures, they were 25 (front) and 21( back), which seems way too low - I was expecting something similar to a standard tire (ie, 32psi).

Also, I'm not sure what size wheels I'm running - can you tell from the tires?

there's been heaps of threads concerning tyres and tyre pressure

but yea 32 psi front 30 on the back should do it.

you got leyland mini S "rostyle" pressed steel wheels. they are 4 and a half inches wide so the 165's will look a bit fat sitting on them.

they're obviously 10" wheels being 165/70 R10 tyres

awesome, thanks! :)

I looked up in my mini workshop manual and it says the PSI should be somewhere around the 24 mark. This is assuming its running the original wheels/tires.

depends on how much weight you are carrying.

depends on what conditions you are driving in.

32 front 30 rear is pretty right for empty car or a few passengers. i just run 32 all round and no probs, when i was on the track i had 30 in front and 25 in rear.

when you have them all set, they should look even all round, even with front different to rear.

Most of the factory manuals say 28psi front , 26psi rear except the Morris 850 which is 24psi front , 22psi rear. Also the Van settings nearly all say add 2psi to the rear when carrying a load.

I spoke to a mini specialist today and he said 26 front and 24 back (assuming no load)

Thanks for all your help :)

try the different pressures suggested and see what suits you, your vehicle and your driving style.

the wheels would have had 145's on them as standard and the tyres ran 28psi front 26psi rear

i used to have the exact wheel and tyre combo that you have and i liked to run a bit more pressure in them to compensate for the fatness of the 165 tyre.
