Post subject:  No Compliance plate, what to do?

Hi guys I have a Mini Panelvan shell that I bought from a property, the problem I have is that my shell has no Compliance plate.

Is there any way to get it registered or will I have to get it registered as a personally constructed vehicle?

Thanks guys.

What age is the van (any idea , is it a round nose or a clubman ? ) , for a while in 1969 mini's didn't have any plates on them ,prior to that they only had a BMC ID plate (not needed for rego) and after that a compliance plate which I doubt you'd have problems with since the vin number on the body (radiator shroud) will be alright .

No it looks like somone has attempted a flipfront conversion or a half done resto. No inner wings or radiator shroud, it is a round nose but it isn't attached.

I want to get a Curley carbon front end for it but I need to know what to do for rego. It will also need to be engineered as I have fabricated mounts for coilover suspension and there will be many other parts modified.

OK , does it have any body number on it t all (earlier mini's had it on the firewall above the master cylinders) ? What state are you in , you might have to talk to your local rego authority and ask them if you can be issued a "police" number to allowit to be registered .

Do Aussie vans have the body number stamped on the front floor as well or is that just in the Pommy cars?

No, I have nothing, no numbers anywhere. I'm in NSW, I really should have done more research before starting work.

Thanks for the help.

Send an email to the RTA and ask what's required for a new number , they are pretty helpful normally and should be able to sort something out fairly easily .

Good Luck with it .

Damian , not sure , I'll have a look at mine tomorrow and check .

I've never seen an Oz one with numbers on the floor.
But some cars have a body number in the rain channel above the wiper motor.

80s rovers had them in the channel. It's a terrible spot because they rust easily and become diffucult to read.

EDITED.
I would ask an engineer about using it for an individually constructed vehicle but would have to use a late model motor.
Did suggest another option but shouldn't be used.

You might be able to find a wrecked van and cut the number out of it and weld it into your shell. They will be none the wiser, and it could save hassles later on.

I suggested that but they didn't like it so I changed it.

Don't do anything stupid. If you don't get caught the next owner might and it will come back to you.

Talk to your rego authorities. They have a simple procedure for this problem, it just involves stamping a new number on the shell after a bit of paperwork, it is not a big problem.
