Post subject:  Ignition Switch

Never had my mini running and just put back in the ignition switch. On the key that was supplied with the car it only has:

OFF - ON

I would have thought it should have:

OFF - ON - STARTER

No floor start as it is a 1965 Deluxe. What should it be?
Thinking might need a new barrell and key?

Regards

Deluxe one had long barrel, was off-on-start.
850 was short barrel, off-on.

Karcraft should have new Deluxe ones.

Mine is a 1970 Matic, long barrel, it has accessories-off-on-start. Not sure if original?

I think on a 65 Model it should have key start. Check if it has hole drilled out in the hump on the driver's side floor. And make sure if it has been modified that it does not have any silly and dangerous starter cable joined under there.

yes - definately a key start. Powered up the loom and the parking lights come on with the lighting switch but main headlights don't light up.

Will take the barrell out - how long is long Kev?

The short barrel 850 one the nut sits against the panel.
The long barrel ones have a chromed spacer about 1/2" long behind the nut, so the keys don't rub on the panel.

Thanks Kev - just went and had a look and I have the spacer there. Have to go to Karcraft to get some new bumpers so will try to get a new lock barrell and key.

Does the barrell just come out when the nut is taken off?

There is a little pin you press in or something to get the barrel out.
I did it last year and can't remember how.
If it was 10 years back, I'd remember it!! :P
