I use Kincrome ones - less than $100 if I recall. http://www.kincrome.com.au/web/catalogu ... ber=K12071 They are a bit over-rated for the mini but I use them for everything! I got a bloody big car jack as well. Mines is a transquip one but Kincrome do a similar. http://www.kincrome.com.au/web/catalogu ... ber=K12062 http://www.transquip.com.au/product.asp ... PARENT=203 I'm an engineer so I ALWAYS overdesign. If you are getting under the car - make sure you are safe! |

It all depends on your budget if you spend that little bit extra to start off with you will end up with better tools. IMO you want items that can be safely used on any car mini through to a Land Cruiser. For a jack simply get a good trolley jack that can lift 5 ,10, 15, 20 odd ton(the more the better). Just make sure it will fit under the mini ![]() With hoist positions I use the rear of the front sub frame mounts, where they bolt to the shell. ![]() And the front of the rear subframe where the flat section is. ![]() I have seen many minis damaged by people positioning the hoist pads on the shell itself (front floor pan corners and rear floor pan corners) it simply can notsafely support the weight IMO. |

Mmmmm, sorry I wouldn't suggest lifting your mini on the hoist by the rear of the front sub-fram as shown. A more stout and stable position would be on the front subframe, under the where the lower control arms / drive shafts are. Sorry, not trying to be picky are a pain, but that point of the subframe is not that strong. It's also a bit too close to the centre line of the car. And yes NEVER lift a complete mini by the body shell, unless you don't like it. It is nice though to have such great facilities to make working on your mini so much nicer ![]() |

I used to jack the front from under where the lower control arm attach to the subframe.... but this was where I also wanted to put the stands.... a bit of a dilema... until someone pointed this out to me on the NSW Mini Club site out of one of the manuals... http://www.miniclub.com.au/forms/lifting.block.pdf So now can jack up from the front and put the stands in easily.... |

I thought those little square bits with the hole in them on each corner of the body shell were the lifting points use in the factory production line - was that before the subframes were added? |

I believe these secured the bodyshell to the conveyor. Before mechanicals were fitted. |

Yep - you can see them being used in production video : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W3jcIBPmYpY&feature=related Approx 25 seconds, and more @ 2.10 and finally @4.00 Moving the body around until subframes fitted.... |

![]() I hope you don't use then as stands. Not very safe, and not good advice! |

![]() Hey, it great that 'your having a go' yourself, but a good set of stands for working on a mini won't set you back much - about $30 - $50 would easlily do it, and besides I think you'd find it quicker to use that laying bricks, less harsh on your hands and easier to store (sounds like an ad for something). AND they'll be so much safer ![]() |
