Post subject: | Front Panel change date? |
I've PM'd a few folk already, but I thought I'd start a thread too. A good friend is restoring a 67 S and is about to put on the paint, we had a discussion about whether his front panel was correct? The earlier type had wide spaced number plate brackets and an extra fill in piece at either end of the grill opening, we'll call these the wide spaced front panel. Later panels were a one piece pressing with narrow spaced numberplate bracket loops, to better suit Aussie rego plates, hence the narrow front panel. When was the changeover, I have a 66 shell with the wide panel and a 68 with the narrow, can any one get closer to the actual changeover? Did this coincide with the dimple scuttle for Aussie style left park wipers? Approx chassis numbers would help pin it down ![]() Cheers...... Graham |

Graham, my 68 S has the narrow spaced brackets (the same width as a numberplate) and the early wiper pattern (it is one of the last before the changeover of the wipers according to the books) I will see if the books list a changover for the numberplate panel. |

The early grill panel is 14A8308. The later grill panel is HYA3592. (note, Australian part number) This book does not give a change point, the revised page is from about early 69. The change point for the wipers is between YKG2S2 4028/ 4029 (this may be car numbers or body numbers I have not been able to prove which it is.) |

Thanks Morris, I thought this was going to slip off the front page! The S is in the 32## chassis number range, so yes, centre spaced wipers. When he asked me I thought he should have the narrow spaced brackets for sure, but now I'm not sure! I'm still waiting on another 67 S (also lake green) owner to measure his, then we wil lhave to make a decision! ![]() |
