My 1412 stroker with RE13 cam and Corolla rockers made 113.6HP and 113ft/lb torque on Graham Russell's engine dyno with an HS6, the needle was an OA6.
No airfilter was used for the run, but when installed I intend to use a Ramflo filter and Unifilter LNX300 foam. That should not change the mixture much if at all.

<edit> fixed typo.

If I use a single HS6 on my 1275 auto , I will probably use an RF needle ( I must admit I don't know if its fixed or floating ) and a K&N filter. As for the manifold, heated obviously , I have been trawling Ebay Italy for an Innocenti manifold , I will find one .

HS is float at the side right?
Mine is on a warm 20 thou over 1100, i modified the carb as per Mr vizards specs, match ported the manifold to the carb and head, and my own bell mouth to fit in the ram flo filter.
And yes i wear gloves when working on cars, even the newest ones are filthy.

I have fitted a couple of HS6's with water heated manifolds to 1275 + engines.....they work quite well......normally fit the offset ramflo airfilter.
Needle size depends on what the engine needs.

I have a HS6 on the stock 1299cc Moke. That one is on a 1.5 inch manifold that has been modified to suit. The needle is a OA6, Ramflo offset filter.

I also have one on Slidey, a 1360, 1.5 rollers, big cam but a stock head at the moment. The HS6 is sitting on a Graham Russell manifold and uses a Ramflo offset again. It has a OA6 needle but we feel that it's a bit lean. When I get this engine set up properly I'll get some dyno time booked.

They say that the OA6 is a good starting point. :)

You don't really need to buy a stubstack with an HS6. There is enough meat in the inlet flange to just put it in a lathe and machine a 4mm radius in there instead. GR did mine.
Anything over 3mm works OK.

Be careful about what the HS6 comes off. Particularly the tilt of the float chamber. If its off a jag or the like it will need modifying in the connection float chamber area.

Minis have their carbies of a 13 degree tilt. Jags dont and if its not corrected fuel will just run out the needle jet.

Nice one Mike , I assume that the stamp numbers on a Jag HS6 will be different to a Mini one ?
