Post subject:  Electric fuel pump

Well I think my old 3psi Facet fuel pump has had enough abuse and has decided that it will leave my Mini on the side of the road and find a better place (eg. a trash bin).

Anyways, I was looking at a Fedtro solid state fuel pump on eBay just now and wondered whick pump I should get. The engine is a suck- thru, supercharged 1300 and loves to drink. However I know SUs like certain fuel pressures.

I'm leaning towrds buying the 3psi-4.5psi pump. They also sell a 2psi-3.5 and a 4.5-6psi.

I currently don't use a regulator and don't intend to.

So what does everyone recommend?

Cheers, Tim.

You want a low pressure/ high volume pump.
It is one thing to quote the psi of the pump but the other important thing is the volume, how many litres per minute. Does Fedtro give this figure?

I think that the SU would prefer the 2-3.5 psi pump but other people may have better info.

Yes, I would agree with Morrie on the presure but it might be a bit of a tall order without a regulator. Most fuel pumps are a diaphram type and it is difficlt to get this type of pump reliably deliver high volumes at low presures.

If you go higher than 2.5 psi you will have problems with flooding on SU's. The needle valves in the float chamber wont cope.

Most pumps will provide the volume you need.

I should have said that it's for and HIF44 carby.

But either way, I read that the Fedtro solid state 2.0-3.5psi pump will pump 25 GPH and the 3.0 - 4.5 will pump 30GPH.

25 gallons an hour is plenty! So I reckon I'll get the 2.0-3.5.
