Managed to find a moment this weekend to start stripping the running shell ("Running being a loose description! Wheels just turning, engine no chance of doing anything ).

On my rear passenger shelf (at back window) I seem to have a big oval hole on the passengers side that is surrounded by four screw holes and a smaller round one in the middle.

I'm presuming that the oval hole is non standard and the round one came from the factory. Would I be correct?

And ..how do I paste pictures in this post so you can see what I am talking about?!

When using photobucket, what you want to do when hosting an image, is down on the bottom left of the page there is:

Email & IM
Direct Link
HTML Code
IMG Code

with codes next to them.

Photobucket makes things a little bit easier for you.

Where you went wrong was, you copied the URL from the address bar, what you want to do is:

Down the bottom left, find the 'IMG Code' line, and copy the code in the box next to 'IMG Code'. That will include the tags at the beginning and end.

What you did was you wrote"[IMG} Then you put the address of the webpage here [/IMG]".
If you want to do it that way:
Type [IMG]
Go to the bottom left corner and locate Direct Link
Copy the code after Direct link
Paste it after your [IMG] tag
Put the [/IMG] tag at the end.

the oval one was from the factory i think... my '75 leyland mini had one in the same spot with a 4" speaker in it. the small round circle i have no clue...

It started by my best recollections after mid 69 but before mid 70. I was wondering about this a few months back....

I had two cars to compare against this was the closest margin of error I could get. The 69 did not, and the 70 did.

I have 8 mini's, and the of the 5 that I have stripped and rebuilt (1976 being the youngest and 1978 the oldest) they all had that exact same holes... So I don't know when they introduced it, the oldest car I have is a GT so if you like I can check that tomorrow and let you know. It is my guess that it is a factory hole, and in the LS i have it does have speakers mounted in them (not sure if speakers were factory fitted, need to consult TME)... Hope that helps

1. I agree the hole looks factory - it's too smooth and regular and the screw holes are all too aligned for it to be home-made.

3. It's not a GT - it's a bare running shell that's about to be subject to OVERHAULING....
