Hey Chaps. Well I have another question for you all. My mini is doing the whirring thing when you turn the key at startup. It catches sometimes but whirrs others and sometimes makesa lovely clattering noise. I have read on here that this is usually the bendix. My starter motor doesn't look like others I have seen so not sure if it is the same. It was installed by PO I am running a 1275 a plus motor. Any idea's what this is from? Any ideas what could be the problem? Thanks again in advance.

I have a feeling its gemini but can't find info to back this up. at the moment. Will keep looking. |

ohh wait. Yeah its a gemini starter. found my thread when I was buying it.. man I have the memory of an 80 year old gold fish who cooked with Aluminium pots all its life... http://www.ausmini.com/forums/viewtopic ... ght=engine |

Hard to imagine the starter is at fault. If its Made in Japan, I would think would be pretty reliable. Maybe your ring gear is cactus. If you remove the starter, you could sus out the ring gear teeth by engaging 4th and rotating the flywheel. |

Take the starter out of the car then dunk the bendix bit in some kerosene and clean all the dust and crap of /out of it - make sure the bendix slides up and down the shaft freely - dry it then put the starter back in the car. DON'T OIL in any way |

I took it off when I rebuilt the car. I put it back how it came off and have tried adjusting it as best as possible but maybe I just didn't allign it well. I am off working on the mini as homework is out of control at the moment. I will have another play next time I am down |
