Another question has arisen during the stripdown. ![]() My 78 Clubman has external hinges and the little map boxes on the inside of the lower doors. 1. Did the classic mini and the clubman have the same doors and are they interchangeable? 2. Do all doors have the inside lower boxes? I seem to have seen some that are just plain with flat insides. Tonight...the exhaust comes off and engine removal starts...ha ha ha... ![]() |

No -- 850's with sliding windows have different doors, lock mechanisms and strikers to Oz wind-up windowed cars. In 1971 the door aperture changed to accomodate new ADRs which mandated burst-proof lock mechanisms, so some Mini K's and all Leyland/Clubman Mini's have these burst-proof locks. 2. Yes - all Oz cars had door pockets from the factory. Sliding windowed cars had big door pockets, they were smaller on all windup windowed doors. The ones you've seen with the pockets removed have been done aftermarket. All Oz cars had external (UK Mk1) door hinges -- the factory never retooled for the Mk2 and on internal hinges. |

To use Morris or Australian non clubman door handle doors in a clubman style shell you'll need to cut the B pillar from a Morris . mtsmini wrote: 2. Do all doors have the inside lower boxes? All Australian and earlier type doors have the door pockets , the only ones that came from the factory without door pockets were the later Rover type or UK type 3 or later mini's . These are all the ones with internal door hinges . All external door hing doors had the pockets from the factory . Also , since we're talking doors , the internal hinged doors won't fit Australian (external hinged) doors , they are a different shape at the front and back edges . |

Ok, the holes on my doors appear to be a bit suspect. I presume my options therefore are: 1. Fix the holes (how?) 2. Find other Clubman doors coz the classic mini ones won't fit 3. Free-ball with no doors but low chance of getting registered ![]() Any other suggestions? |
