you are doing some welding on the Mini and can't get good runs and spend an hour or two getting it to a point "she'll do" and when you are putting the gear away realise you didn't have the gas turned on

my favourate is when I lent my oxy set to my Dad a while ago and he change the tip over to an #12. I only ever use an 8,,,, so I spent half an hour trying to work out why I kept blowing holes in everything  I call that a blonde moment

No mig here - but my foible is that on the arc - the stick gets stuck on the metal and I cant get it off (yeah I now i am not a welder). Everything gets hot and it ends up tripping the house circuit breaker. |

Or you hang the mig handle up to wander off for a cup of tea....you come back to find the trigger has been pressed on because of the way you hung it up and the welding cubicle is a tangled mess of zapping and sparking mig wire... I had to hack my way in with a pair of side cutters and a safari suit. |

We used to play jokes on each other at tafe similar to that,,, usually just turn the feed rate right up so when the go to weld they sh1t em selves,,, but that is gold!!! Well done.
Ok ok, its not nice to laugh at others unless you can laugh at yourself... I was welding with the oxy one day and the tip got dirty.. I thought "I know I'll clean it with this toe dolly" (flat dolly about the size of your palm) so yep, I ran the tip over the dolly and straight across my fingers... I couldn't even feel it. It creeped me out a little, cos I have never seen that much smoke come off flesh,, it just kept burning? For about 30 seconds... and then when I ran it under the water (I think quenched is a better word) steam came off it for a good 5 seconds? So if you've ever wondered what 3750 degrees C will do to human flesh,, wonder no more!!! I found out so you don't have too!!

Years ago was mig welding in the engineering shop I used to work for and while I was welding I thought my belly was a little warm, oh well, this looks like the best weld ive ever done so I keep welding, then my chest gets pretty warm, oh well, this is definetly some of the best welding ive ever done and keep going, then I think the auto lens on my helmet is buggered cause every thing is pretty bright inside here, oh no that would be the flames coming off my work shirt engulfing my head. Painful couple of weeks after that, I was on foire for about 3mins before I realised. |

It seems most of these are related to welding for some reason............ Many years ago I was blowing the rusty bolts off a roll cage on a Moke, no problem, until I did the leg in the middle on the left, your know the one next to the petrol filler cap.............. Well it did only take less than a week for the hair to start growing back..... |

That's called "O'Tooles" law, which states that Murphey was an optimist. I did something similar,used argon mix for steel instead of pure argon when I was welding alumin.

maybe not mowog. There was the time I thought it would be a great idea to put a wire wheel down on my arm while it was spinning... I thought I had sevored my tendons for sure!!! nup, still good... If I can think of a "don't yu hate when" of mine that doesn't involve me injuring myself I'll let you know!!!

I found out quite by accident that when you slice into your finger (through leather gloves, I might add) with one of those very thin cut-off wheels on an angle grinder, that it automatically cauterises the wound. No blood at all, still hurts though

A lucky one... My dear old Grandfather who, up until age got the better of him, was a extremely safe man who was always reminding us "kids" to wear goggles when welding, proper boots when working on our cars, etc. One afternoon I needed to grind something quickly on the bench grinder so I ran over, turned it on then began grinding and next thing I knew I was flat on my back across the shed in a cloud of dust with ringing in my ears and no idea WTF happened. Turns out "safe" Grandad had decided to store three old car batteries (with caps off) on shelf of bench directly under bench grinder.....guess battery gas and sparks don't mix.....thankfully they didn't blow up towards me otherwise my life would be a lot different right now.
