Soo new engine, new dash and 2nd hand cluster `rover cluster has
the push type speedo like leyland. Let's just think leyland.

Is there a away to remwind to zero? do I put a drill in some where?

The tacho should reset to zero when you turn the engine off!

My speedometer? What ever read th 'km's

you mean the odometer.....if you can take it apart you can flick the numbers carefully around to whatever number you like.

You could drive a speedo cable inner into the back and calculate when it goes around to zero again, but I don't think its a very good idea as it will wear parts out, and you are bound to miss it.

Take it to a speedo specialist/repairer they can reset the odometre for you, i'd recommened doing that as im sure you will stuff it up if you try it yourself.

I wouldn't do that either. There are gubbins in the back which are pretty delicate. Approach it from the back to save breaking the small driving gears and the ratchet arm..

Hmm ok. Ill pull it apart and sus it out.

Depends when it was regoed and what state.
If it is to be regoed in NSW the speedo reading is put on file every year to try and stop the winding back of speedo's.

I recently had mine zeroed because the old speedo died, and the new one from UK was zero. Guy doing the rego check pink slip said no problem.

<edit> when they write the number down, they don't even have a fill-in box to say if it's miles or km. So their records are BS.
In my case the old 130MPH S speedo died at 57,000 Miles (not far short of 100,000 Km equivalent).
A new 200KMH S speedo only reads to 99,999.9km then is 00,000.0 again.

I actually wound mine forward using an old cable and electric drill when restoring another make of car. I've heard trying to wind it back actually damages the mechanism as Mick said.

I don't agree with the practise if you are trying to represent the mileage as something it isn't, but in my case I still have the car and if I ever sold it, I would be upfront with when I wound it forward and why.

In the mini I had to change speedos several times for issues with the speedos themselves so I think they would rarely match in many cases anyhow.
